Whitecross School Peer Educators Day Survey

On 18th July 2017 Healthwatch joined Participation People at their ‘Influencer Summit’ as 60 peer educators talked to decision makers and showcased their campaigns around; Healthy Lifestyles & Obesity, Sexual Health and Mental Health.

We spoke to 60 high school children about: physical activity, eating fruit and vegetables and what they do to look after themselves when they feel unwell. The results of the survey are below.

How many days a week do you do 60 minutes (or more) of physical activity a day?

How many days a week do you eat 5 or more portions of fruit and/or vegetables?

Can you give an example of how you would look after yourself when you feel unwell?

Other important issues raised;

  • In talking about healthy eating, a fifth of the children surveyed said they wouldn’t eat 5 portions of fruit and/or vegetables a day ever.

  • Some children said they would eat fruit and vegetables if their parents bought it.

  • Some children asked what sports and non-traditional sports and exercise activities were taking place outside of school that they could get involved in and how could they find out about them.
