Healthwatch Comments on Temporary MIU Closure for Winter
Healthwatch, the health consumer champion, has commented on the Clinical Commissioning Group's recent announcement that Wye Valley Trust
is to close two minor injuries units.
Due to the increasing winter pressures, the CCG has said that the MIUs at Ross and Leominster will close for the whole of December to allow key staff to be transferred to Hereford hospital to support staff there in the busy A&E department.
Ian Stead, Healthwatch chairman said "we have discussed the MIU closure with the CCG and broadly supported the move due to the extra winter pressures on Hereford hospital.
"We have said though that we expect the MIUs to be reopened as soon as possible and that the temporary closure must not be used as an excuse to permanently close the MIUs. The CCG have assured us that this will not be done.
"We know that the CCG and Wye Valley Trust have been making good plans to cope with the winter pressures and once the winter surge us over we look forward to the MIUs reopening".
